This is a simple yummy dessert that doesn’t require a lot of skill! (Perfect for me).

The cooked apple & melted chocolate are so delicious together. It tastes like chocolate apple pie! I love it with a scoop of good old vanilla ice cream.

You can swap the fruit for basically any that you have on hand but fresh (not frozen) stone fruit would be best. Peach, apricot, nectarine, plums etc. The pecans can also be swapped for any nut you have also. Almonds go great with apricots etc.

Chocolate apple galette is a combination of fresh ingredients and homemade easy pastry that is so deeply delicious you will bake it again and again

Ingredients

Pastry
  • 1 1/2 cups plain white flour
  • 2/3 cups / 150 grams cold butter, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon white granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 teaspoons water, chilled
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
Chocolate Apple Filling
  • 1 - 2 apples, sliced
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate drops
  • 1 teaspoon white granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Put flour, butter, sugar, and salt in a food processor. Blend until it looks like sand with some pea size lumps of butter.
  2. Add a little chilled water to the food processor. Blend until the sand starts to form a ball. If the ball doesn’t form continue adding water until a dough ball starts to form.
  3. Pull dough out of the food processor.
  4. Press the dough with your hands, adding water if it’s too dry/cracking (not too much though). Knead dough several times as the apple will release juices.
  5. into a flat 6 inch / 15 cm disk, wrap tightly in cling wrap. Place in fridge for minimum of 1 - 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 370 F fan bake. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  7. Roll your pastry out on a slightly floured surface with a lightly floured rolling pin. Transfer to your baking tray.
  8. Scatter chocolate drops over pastry, focusing on the middle. Place apple slices on top of the chocolate. Sprinkle with sugar & pecans.
  9. On one side fold outside edge of pastry towards middle pleating as you go, it will form a rough circle. Egg wash the pastry. Sprinkle with sugar.
  10. Place in oven and bake for 40 - 45 minutes depending on your oven. Cooked when pastry is cooked through & apples are softened!
