Tartine Manufactory Restaurant Review

If you’re looking for an airy light filled restaurant or coffee shop with modern timber aesthetics plus insanely delicious food and great coffee then I think Tartine Manufactory is your next fav spot.

Overall Tartine Manufactory Review

I would definitely make the trip to Tartine Manufactory again! If you live in San Francisco then you should go this weekend and if you're planning a trip to visit San Fran definitely put it on your itinerary. I’ve been to a lot of coffee shops and I would have to say the actual restaurant itself is one of my favorites that I’ve ever sat in. It’s enough to make a girl move to San Fran.

Note: I’m going to refer to Tartine Manufactory as a restaurant but this is what I would consider a café, it’s a daytime establishment where you order at the counter.

Tartine Manufactory Menu

Now the part I know you’ve been waiting for (and don’t want to scroll for!)! The food was superb, an upmarket elegant bakery twist on brunch and lunch. They focus on seasonal produce so expect the menu to change regularly.

I drink a single shot latte with oat milk ($6.50). The coffee was pretty good but it was my third of the day and I felt like my eyeballs were about to jitter out of their sockets. We won’t hold this against them as that is my own fault.

You can’t go here without eating Tartine bread, so I also ordered the Whipped Ricotta Toast ($14.25). It was amazing! The toast was extra thick and extra fluffy, it was such a large serving I ended up taking half of it home to eat for a late lunch. The mix of ricotta, orange marmalade, and pistachios was particularly mouth-watering and I will definitely be replicating it at home (not that it will be as good!).

Getting From Tartine Bakery To Tartine Manufactory

So I actually started at Tartine Bakery on Guerrero Street. I grabbed myself a coffee and a seat outside, it was very cool there and if you’ve watched Somebody Feed Phil then you’ll definitely want to start here.

I then walked down 18th Street and went round the corner of Harrison Street and on to Alabama Street to Tartine Manufactory. It’s an easy flat 15 minute walk maximum but I would recommend being cautious on the walk as there are some very ill people (who hopefully will get the help they need). As a woman by myself I’m always extra careful and mindful to mention this where I can.

The Makings Of A Good Restaurant

There are so many things that go into the makings of a good restaurant from the actual building site, to the smell of the establishment as you walk in, lighting, vistas (what you see as you walk in and when you’re sitting), to furnishings, color scheme, food (obviously), coffee, and even water glasses, salt & pepper, it all makes a difference to your experience. And this isn’t an exhaustive list!

The Aesthetic (did I say it right?)

Okay so the above title is a little over the top BUT Tartine Manufactory is really in a beautiful building and they have designed the interior in a way that utilizes the space and enhances the feelings of being comfortable but also feeling very chic plus cool.

As you first walk in you are immediately greeted with a shelf of delicious looking rustic sourdough loaves. Then as you turn your head to the right you are looking down the entire length of the restaurant ending in an almost floor to ceiling window.

Everything is almost monochromatic wood in a mid-brown tone which is perfect because the entire building is painted white or is glass, plus it has an extremely high vaulted ceiling so you need the textural and color contrast.

The indoor seating area is flooded with natural light from the expansive windows and there is a large outdoor seating area which is covered, perfect if you have a dog!

I really loved being able to see a lot of the bakers cooking and the machinery around (it is a manufactory!).

Ordering Food And Getting A Table

Tartine Manufactory runs a first come, first serve policy so there is no need to make a reservation. In saying that during the week it seems to be pretty easy to get yourself a table but on the weekend I can see how the peak times would make that difficult. They have an order and pay at the counter system as you enter and then once you have a table number you can go seat yourself.

The Self Service Theme

There is a water station with cold water and nice simple water glasses…made from glass. The other thing I really loved was at this station they also had brown cardboard takeaway boxes, I actually wish all daytime restaurants had this because there was absolutely no waiting around for a waitress or waiting in line again to just ask for a takeaway box.
